From what I'm reading, it looks like you HAVE to have WindowsXP... Hold the power button of your player in the ON position while you return the battery. The applications meant for Windows XP and Vista will not function in Windows 7 and if you have installed them from the cd or previous XP/Vista updates, uninstall them from the Creative Zen Micro Reset You can get help and discuss drivers on our free driver forum.

Note: Connect to a computer USB port only. - Improves battery life by reducing Standby mode to only 4 hours. If all else fails, you can request the driver and we will find it for you. At least it worked for me! I tried various USB ports on the computer.
I'll see if rolling back to WMP9 then back up to 10 and see if that works. Each day, our international team of techs adds hundreds of new drivers to our archive. But when I plug in my Zen, it still shows an exclimation on the Device Manager. I've had my Zen for about a year and a half.
