To make the story short I followed the advice given by Trefenwynd and found the file mrxsmb.sys was removed from my system32/drivers folder. Restarted, opened a command window and ran “sfc /scannow” ( you will need a Windows XP SP3 install cd in the optical drive for sfc to run, it takes about 30 Once again many thanks!
